Obituary of Oscar T. Smith

Oscar T. Smith, 92, of Point Pleasant, passed away, Friday, April 9, 2010. Born in Plainfield, he lived there and summered in Point Pleasant, moving there permanently twenty five years ago. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was a graduate of Rutgers University. Mr. Smith was a retired travel consultant from Exxon, Florham Park, where he worked for over thirty years. He was a member of the Pilgrim Covenant Church, South Plainfield, and attended the First Baptist Church, Point Pleasant Beach. A Jack of All Trades, he really enjoyed being a Mr. Fixit, as well as golfing, fishing, and volunteering at the former Point Pleasant Hospital. Surviving are his wife, of sixty six years, Dagmar Swenson Smith; two daughters, Linda Fieros and her husband Richard of Manasquan and Nancy Callaghan and her husband Dennis of Monmouth Beach; and two grandsons, Conor and Brendan Callaghan. Relatives and friends may visit from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 13 at the Pable - Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road, where at 10:30 a.m. a service will be held. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. As an expression of sympathy, donations made in his memory to either Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Pilgrim Covenant Church of South Plainfield, or First Baptist Church of Point Pleasant Beach, would be appreciated and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
