Obituary of Edward E. Smith

Edward Earl Smith, 82, of Point Pleasant, passed away, Friday, June 4, 2010 at home. He was born in Point Pleasant Beach and was a life-time resident in the Point Pleasant area. Edward was a retired surveyor for Jersey Central Power and Light Company, Asbury Park where he worked for 38 years. He was a graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School, The Pennington School and attended the University of Alabama. He was a tackle on Point Beach's 1945 undefeated Shore Conference football champions and was involved in Pop Warner football and a Little League umpire for 21 years. He served with the 11th Airborne and the Presidential Guard in Washington, D.C. from 1950 - 1952. He was a member of the Point Pleasant Beach Fire Co. #1 for 24 years and the Society of Professional Planner and Surveyors. Surviving are his beloved wife of 56 years, Theresa; sons, Brian, Earl, and daughter Eileen Smith; granddaughter, Jessica Smith; and great granddaughter Jamie Crystal. He was predeceased by his son, Mark. Also surviving are his loving brother Robert Smith; sisters Joan Squiteri, Barbra Roselli and Patricia Clayton; and many loving nieces and nephews. At 11 a.m. on Monday, June 14 a memorial service will be held at the Central United Methodist Church, 729 Arnold Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach. Inurnment will follow at Saint Catharine Cemetery, Sea Girt. The Pable - Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant is in charge of arrangements.
