Obituary of Hazel M. Merkle

Hazel M. Merkle "Sassy", of Point Pleasant and Lakehurst, died peacefully at home December 26, 2010, age 97 years, 8 months. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she grew up in Bound Brook, New Jersey, also residing in Irvington, Ormond Beach, Florida before moving to Lakehurst 25 years ago. She graduated from Methodist Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing, Brooklyn, NY and neonatal care courses at Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago, IL. Her entire career centered around infant care and teaching other nurses. She loved her family and her work. Sassy was a great lady who helped others and found a positive in every situation. She is survived by her niece and nephew, Sandra Pear and Erik and Daryl Smith, Harrington, De. Also by grand and great nieces and nephews, Michael Pear, Laura and Kevin Varela, Christopher Pear, Brighid, James and Rhianna Varela, all of Point Pleasant. Interment will be private.
