Obituary of Jean L. Swain

Jean Burrows Swain, 96, of Brick, passed away peacefully May 3, 2011 surrounded by family, holding her hand. Jean lived at Brandywine Reflections in Brick, NJ, where she was cared for by the most wonderful and caring people who treated her like family. Jean was born in Brooklyn and was lovingly known to all as "Nanny". She lived much of her life at the Jersey Shore and also Florida. Jean lived life to the fullest, loved her family and enjoyed traveling. She graduated salutatorian of Lyndhurst High School in 1932 and as a young woman worked for RCA at Rockefeller Plaza in NYC. Jean was a Brownie Leader and worked for Hubert Johnson Boat Works in Bay Head as well as Comstock Boat Works in Brick. Jean was pre-deceased by her husband & childhood sweetheart, Warren Burrows in 1968, 2nd husband Frank Swain in 1979, and sister Winifred. She leaves behind her loving daughters Judy Gahr Schwartz & husband Peter of Pt. Pleasant, Joan Bal & husband Martin of Texas and her brother Howard. She also leaves 5 grandchildren: Chip Gahr & wife Susan, Debra Gahr, Dawn Thompson & husband Mike, Robin Cairl & husband Ian, Lori Bass & husband Kevin, and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation is Friday May 6 from 5-8pm at Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, 901 Beaver Dam Rd., Point Pleasant. A service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday May 7 at 2 p.m. at the Manasquan United Methodist Church, 23 Church Street, Manasquan. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Brielle.
