Obituary of C. Mae Moore Jones

Charlie Mae Simmons Jones, of Point Pleasant, passed away, Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the Ocean Medical Center, Brick. She was born in Thomasville, Georgia, to Classie Simmons on October 1, 1932. Her husband, James Jones, preceded her in death. Her brother, Eugene Simmons, also preceded her in death. She is survived by her long time friend, Tom Terry of Detroit, Michigan, her step-daughter, Dorothy Thomas (and husband Clet Thomas) of Fort Wayne, IN, her god-son, Keishane Esturiene of New York, NY, special cousins, Marion O'Neal of Hackensack, NJ, Marion Coleman-Franklin of Thomasville, Georgia, Lloyd Coleman of Philadelphia, PA, and Gwendolyn S. Fields of St. Petersburg, FL, caregiver Herbert Anderson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and caring neighbors. At an early age Charlie Mae joined the Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Thomasville, GA, and was a member of the choir. She was active there until she moved to Detroit, Michigan, in search of a better job. After many years working in Detroit, she moved to New York where she worked at the Consolidated Laundry until her retirement. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Manasquan and in the Bronx, NY, and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Eastern Star there. Charlie Mae was a good cook and enjoyed eating tasty food. She enjoyed sharing her cooking with others. She enjoyed gardening and watching things grow, including her cats. She was very generous and caring and willing to help anyone in need. Charlie Mae will surely be missed. Visitation will be from 2 - 4 p.m., Thursday, June 16 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road, and again from 9 - 10 a.m., Friday, June 17 at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 44 Union Avenue (Route 71), Manasquan, where at 10 a.m. her homecoming celebration will commence with the Rev. Gerald A. Schenck, Sr., Pastor, officiating. Mrs. Jones will be laid to rest, following the service, at White Lawn Cemetery, Point Pleasant.
