Obituary of Robert Richard Taylor

Robert R. Taylor, 87, of Point Pleasant Beach, peacefully passed away, Sunday, June 26, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Point Pleasant Beach and was a lifelong resident. Robert was a veteran of World War II. He flew sixteen missions out of England, serving as a pilot and copilot on those missions. He was shot down three times. On his last flight, April 13, 1945, he parachuted out of a burning plane, was captured by the enemy, and was in a prisoner of war camp until the end of the war. He received medals for his service to his country including the Purple Heart. He returned to his family in 1945. Robert worked as an award winning salesman with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company until he retired. He served as a member of the planning committee for Point Pleasant Beach for many years. He leaves his children and grandchildren with many fond memories of stories and songs he taught them. He wrote a book, "Amada's War" about his wife's experiences during the war. They were high school sweethearts who enjoyed sixty-four years of married life. Robert was predeceased by his wife, Amada C. Williams Taylor; his father, Frank Taylor, his mother, Adeline Lane Taylor, and by his sister, Jeannette Van Schoick. He is survived by two daughters, Marcia Stoetzel and her husband Robert of Williamsburg, VA and Terry Taylor-Massaro and her husband Anthony of Brielle; and by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert & Suzanne Taylor of Sidney, NSW, Australia. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Stacey Bierbrauer, Robert Stoetzel, Hilary Reynolds, Daniel Siegel, Sean Massaro, Ryan Taylor, Aimee Siegel, Lauren Taylor, Abigail Siegel, Rachael Taylor, and James Taylor; and five-great children, Samantha & Max Bierbrauer, Cameron, Eric, & Evan Reynolds. Visitation will be from 7 - 9 p.m., Thursday, June 30 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 11 a.m., Friday, July 1, a graveside service, followed by interment, will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.
