Obituary of Worden "Sam" Clement

Worden Clement, known as "Sam" to all his family and friends, died suddenly on Sunday, July 31st. Sam was 68 years old. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 31, 1943. Sam moved to Point Pleasant in 1969. He worked as an auto mechanic for Tally's Dodge before becoming owner and operator of Prospect Point Sunoco in Point Pleasant Beach, most recently known as Prospect Point Valero, for the last 31 years. He was also an agent for Point Pleasant Avis for the last 42 years. Sam was a member of the Point Pleasant Rotary Club for over 20 years and served as Past President, the Board of Directors and Past Rotarian of the Year. In addition, Sam was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow, one of the highest awards in Rotary for SERVICE ABOVE SELF. He was a member of Harvey Memorial Methodist Church where he served as Past President of Trustees. He is also a member of several hunting clubs and loved spending time with his motorcycle buddies and always looked forward to sunny, Sunday mornings on his motorcycle. Sam leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Gloria Gray Clement; his children, Robert and Amy Clement of Manahawkin, Richard and Deborah Clement of Waxhaw, NC, and Sheryl and Justin Newton also of Waxhaw, NC; his 9 grandchildren, Shayne Clement, Courtney Clement, Robert John Clement II, Gabrielle Clement, Sarah Clement, Samantha Newton, Ava Clement, Lily Clement and Olivia Newton; his niece and her husband, Karen and William Campbell of Forked River; his Goddaughter, Marykate Campbell; a sister-in-law Josephine Gray of Boynton Beach, FL; and many, many cousins and friends, all of whom Sam lived his life for. His celebration of life visitation will be from 2 - 4 p.m. & 7 - 9 p.m., Wednesday, August 3, at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 11 a.m., Thursday, August 4, a service will be held at the Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church, 1120 Arnold Avenue, Point Pleasant. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Children's Specialized Hospital of Toms River or Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church.
