Obituary of William H. Sutphen

William H. Sutphen, 88, of Point Pleasant, passed away, Thursday, September 8, 2011 at his home. Born in Bay Head, to the late William and Clara (Hall) Sutphen, he was a life long area resident. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant. Mr. Sutphen retired from the Brick School System as an Industrial Arts teacher after thirty seven years of service. He was a seventy year member and Ex-Chief of the Bay Head Fire Company, No. 1, and was also a life member of the Point Pleasant Fire Department; and member of the NJ State Exempt Firemen's Association; and the Northern Ocean County Fire Chiefs Association. He was a former councilman for the Borough of Bay Head and member of Saint Paul's United Methodist Church, Bay Head. Surviving are his beloved wife, Janet Orzechowski Sutphen; three sons, Bruce J. Sutphen and his fiance Gail of Point Pleasant, Todd Sutphen and his wife Lynn of Point Pleasant, and Stewart Sutphen and his wife Nancy of TX; and three daughters, Nancy Tedder of TX, Laura Jane Bandy and her husband Dennis of TX, and Cindy Salas and her husband Ernie of Manahawkin. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 - 4 p.m. & 7 - 9 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m., Firemen Service, Monday, Sept. 12 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, a graveside service, followed by interment, will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.
