Obituary of Harriet Pierce Hart

Harriet Hart, loving wife and mother, age 94, passed away, Thursday, December 8, 2011. Born Harriet Pierce on March 20, 1917 in Bennington, VT to a family of 13, she was sent to live with her father's brother in Manchester, VT after her mother's death in childbirth. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a degree in French and worked as a translator at the World's Fair in 1939 and then translator and news programmer for NBC. While working at the World's Fair, she met her husband of 65 years, Charles Roxbury Hart, who died in 2006. They are survived by their daughter, Dr. Beth Hart of New York City and Point Pleasant. The Harts resided in New York City, Pearl River, and Ramsey, before retiring to Point Pleasant. Harriet was an avid tennis player and accomplished pianist. She loved classical music, nights at the opera, and opening her home to friends and family. The last years of her life she spent at Meridian Nursing Home where she was known for her good spirits and loving nature. She will be missed by friends, family, and her loving care worker. At 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 18, a memorial service will be held at Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church, Point Pleasant. A gathering at the house will follow.
