Obituary of Edwin A. Schlotzhauer

Edwin August Schlotzhauer, Jr., 91, passed away peacefully at home in Bay Head on Sunday, December 25, 2011, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on December 27, 1919 in Locust Valley, New York. He graduated from Friends Academy in Locust Valley and from Tufts University. After graduation, he began what would be a 41 year career with American Smelting and Refining Company in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Texas and New Jersey, retiring as General Manager of their Eastern Division in 1983. While in Texas Ed enjoyed square-dancing, coaching basketball in a church league and hunting trips to West Texas. Before moving to Bay Head, Ed resided in Matawan, where he was a member of the Vestry and Senior Warden at Trinity Episcopal Church. He also was a member of the Planning Board and served as Recycling Coordinator. Ed enjoyed sports, traveling and being surrounded by family and friends. He was a member of the "Romeo's" and always looked forward to a good game of bridge at the Bay Head Yacht Club. Ed was predeceased by his first wife, Libby and his brother, Allen. He leaves behind Signe, his wife of 27 years, his daughter, Louisa and her husband, Vincent of Westmore, Vermont, his son, Edwin and his wife, Elizabeth of Houston, Texas, his son Thomas and his wife, Elizabeth of Miami, Florida, step-children, Vicki and her husband, James of Rye, New York and Ingrid and her husband, David, also of Rye, New York as well as grandchildren, Vincent, Elizabeth, Thomas, Elizabeth Ashley, Kristen, and Kaitlyn, step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Kristin, James, Brenden, Ryan and Courtney. He also leaves behind great grandsons, Jack, Mason, Cooper and Lucas and a great granddaughter "on the way". The immediate family will receive friends and family at Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, 901 Beaver Dam Road, Point Pleasant, New Jersey on Tuesday, December 27 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 28 at 11:00 A.M. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 500 Lake Avenue, Bay Head, New Jersey. Burial will take place at a later date at the family plot in Locust Valley, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harlem Academy, a school founded by Ed's grandson, Vincent Dotoli, located at 1330 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York, 10026.
