Obituary of John LeChard

John LeChard, 78, of Point Pleasant, passed away, Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Ocean Medical Center. Born in Point Pleasant, to the late Russell & Elizabeth LeChard, he was a life-long resident. Mr. LeChard worked as a marine contractor and owned and operated R.H. LeChard and Sons, for nearly fifty years, retiring in 2002. He graduated from Point Pleasant Beach High School and Rutgers University, with a degree in Journalism, and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. LeChard was a former part-time court correspondent for the Leader newspaper; enjoyed reading and genealogy; and was an avid NY Yankees, Lakewood Blue Claws, and baseball fan. He was also a devoted and active member of Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church, Point Pleasant, where he served as chairman of the Church Council for many years. His first wife, Penny Blair LeChard; brothers, William & Charles LeChard; and sister, Jessie Spear, predeceased him. Surviving are his wife, of thirty years, Virginia Roe LeChard; children, Russell Douglas LeChard and his wife Cynthia of Toms River, Gail E. Akers of Point Pleasant, William LeChard and his wife Elizabeth of Point Pleasant, and Lynn Eick and her husband Wilson of Ocean Ridge, FL. Also surviving are grandchildren, Kaitlyn Akers, Evan LeChard, Alison Morris and her husband Bill, Amanda Benedict and her husband Steve, William LeChard, Jr. and his fiance Beatriz, Matthew Dasti and his wife Nitai, Jerry Dasti, Keith Leonhard and Denise Leonhard; and great-grandchildren, Brianna, Deidre, Liam, Ivy, Paisley, Leela, and Anna. Visitation will be from 3 - 5 p.m. & 7 - 9 p.m., Thursday, Mar. 1 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 10:30 a.m., Friday, Mar. 2, a service will be held at Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church, 1120 Arnold Avenue, Point Pleasant, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.
