Obituary of Barbara R. Kane

Barbara R. Kane, 85, of Lakewood, passed away, Saturday, March 24, 2012. She was born and raised in Hartford, CT and resided in New Hampshire for seventeen years before moving to New Jersey in 1968. Her last employment was as a Conservation Clerk with New Jersey Natural Gas Co., retiring in 1992 and was a member of the Gaslight Club. A previous position was that of Office Manager at Point Pleasant Beach Nursing Home. She was a member of Saint Mary's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, Point Pleasant Beach, where she was a choir member (The Singing Saints), a Soup Kitchen volunteer, and a member of the Saint Mary's Society Women's Club. She was predeceased by her parents, William S. and Isabella Risley; her son, Kenneth J. Kane; her ex-husband, John T. Kane; and all of her siblings, three brothers, Richard, Kenneth, & William G. Risley; and three sisters, Agnes Nitzel, Winifred McDonald, and Dorothy Risley. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen & Bruce Egan; her daughter, Susan Vernieri; her daughter-in-law, Irene Kane; Christine Kane, surviving wife of ex-husband; six grandchildren, William J. Kane and his wife Kathleen, Wendy Thompson and her husband Thomas, Kenneth J. Rott, Matthew Rott, and Lauren & Maria Vernieri; six great-grandchildren, Joseph P. & McKenzie Kane, Tyler, Sarah, & Katelyn Thompson, and Julian Rott; three step-grandchildren, Dale Kane and his wife Kathleen, Kathleen Fischer and her husband Douglas, and Michael Glassman and his wife Colleen; seven step great-grandchildren, Ryan, Leslie, Mike, Kyle, Dustin, Macy, and Ryley; and several nieces and nephews. At 12 Noon, Friday, March 30 a Memorial Liturgy will be said at Saint Mary's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, Bay & Atlantic Avenues, Point Pleasant Beach. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations made in her memory to Saint Mary's by-the-Sea Church would be appreciated. A private cremation was arranged by the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant.
