Obituary of Arthur Degen

Arthur Degen, age 80, of Point Pleasant, passed on Sunday, April 1, 2012 surrounded by family. Born on February 28, 1932 in Jersey City, he moved to Point Pleasant Beach at a young age. He attended Point Pleasant Beach High School and married his high School sweetheart Gloria (Frazee) Degen. They have always lived in the same home he built for them in Point Pleasant. Art Degen was proud of his service in the U.S. Marines and a Korean War Veteran. He was a generous volunteer and was a charter member of the former Point Pleasant Boro Fire Company #2, a life member of the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad, a longtime member of the Point Pleasant Beach Elks and an Senior Member of the Point Pleasant Old Guard. Art Degen was a lineman working for Jersey Central Power & Light for 42 years and enjoyed what he did and the people he worked with. In life Art and family were avid campers and traveled the country. He spent long hours working in the family garden and doing yard work at his and his children's homes. Arthur is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gloria (Frazee) Degen of Point Pleasant, their children, Richard Degen and wife Nancy of Point Pleasant, Debra (Degen) Mangiafico and her husband Paul of Point Pleasant, Jeanne Degen of Point Pleasant Beach and Beth Degen-Kummer and her husband Richey of Point Pleasant. His brother, John Degen of SanDiego, CA and two sisters, Betty Ann Hall of Kingston, TN and Emma Stano of Warren, OH. Arthur will also be missed by seven Grandchildren: Eric Wagner, Brad Mangiafico, Stacey Degen, Lauren Mangiafico, Alison Fierst, Skyler Kummer and Morgan Kummer. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Pable Evertz Funeral Home, 901 Beaver Dam Road, Point Pleasant, NJ 08742, on Thursday, April 5th from 3:00 to 7:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made in Arthur Degen's memory to the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad, Inc., 611 Laurel Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742. Semper Fidelis.
