Obituary of Edward V. MacNish, Sr.

Edward "Edd" MacNish, Sr., 64, of Point Pleasant, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 9, 2012. He was born in Newark, N.J. and was a graduate of St. James Grammar School and Essex Catholic High School. Edd played the trumpet and was a member of St. Joseph's Drum & Bugle Corp and Blessed Sacrament Drum and Bugle Corp. On March 17, 1969, Edd joined the U.S. Army. He was a helicopter mechanic serving in B Troop, 1st of the 9th Calvary. While on a mission in Taynin, Vietnam, Edd's helicopter was shot down and he was seriously injured. He received the Silver Star for his bravery and sacrifice during the mission, along with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Edd was very proud to have served his country. After Edd was medically discharged from the U.S. Army, he lived in San Jose, CA and New Jersey for a few years before moving to Winthrop, MA. Edd owned and operated a canteen truck for several years. One of his greatest joys was being out on his 25' Bayliner, the 'Cecilia B', to fish and cruise with family and friends around Boston Harbor. He was a member of the VFW, the Knights of Columbus and the Winthrop Yacht Club. Edd relocated to Point Pleasant in 2006, and joined the VFW Post 4715 in Point Pleasant Beach. He was an active member of the Post Color Guard and served as Vice Commander. Edd was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Edd loved boating, fishing, camping, Heinken beer, his Cockatiel, Hiney, and The Grateful Dead. He had a big heart, a generous spirit and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Edd is predeceased by his father, Edward V. MacNish and his stepfather, John P. Burke. Surviving are his mother, Cecila Burke, Point Pleasant, his son, Edward V. MacNish, Jr., Toms River, his sisters Doreen MacNish, Brick, and Patricia Caldwell, Point Pleasant, his nephews, Brent and Scott Caldwell, Point Pleasant, his granddaughter, Ava, Toms River, his ex-wife, Rose MacNish, Toms River, and cousins Joseph Howell, Manchester, Joan Ellen Meisenbacher, Point Pleasant and John Meisenbacher, Brick. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home, 901 Beaver Dam Road, Point Pleasant. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, Point Pleasant Beach. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edd's memory to the Disabled American Veterans.
