Obituary of Richard A. Van Duyn

Richard A. "Arnie" Van Duyn, 75, of Point Pleasant, NJ died Monday, June 11, 2012. He was born in Milltown, NJ, but lived almost all of his years in Pt. Pleasant and Pt Pleasant Beach. A graduate of Pt Pleasant Beach High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1956. During his enlistment he served as an instructor in the Atomic, Biological and Chemical Warfare School. Having achieved the rank of Sergeant and being certified an expert marksman, he was honorably discharged in 1959. Following his service he attended and graduated from Trenton State University (now The College Of New Jersey), then went on to teach 4th Grade at Old Mill School and 6th Grade Science in the Intermediate School in Wall Township for 20 years, until he retired in 1994. He also served as the head of the Pt. Pleasant Borough Recreation Center Committee, during which time he helped the Pt. Pleasant Borough Little League obtain the land needed to build their field . Arnie was an active member of the Pt. Pleasant Elks Club, where he was chairman of the Fluke Tournament Committee for over a decade and a member of the Veteran's Committee. He is predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Linda A. Van Duyn. He is survived by his brother Alfred V. Van Duyn, sister Carol Jean Bolduc, daughter Tracy A. Van Duyn, son Christopher A Van Duyn and daughter-in-law Sharon Catelli, and other loving family and friends. Relatives and friends may visit from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m., Wednesday, June 13 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road, 732.899.3300. At 11 a.m., Thursday, June 14, a service will be held at the funeral home. Cremation will take place privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pt Pleasant Elks Club Veteran's Committee, 820 Arnold Ave, Pt Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742.
