Obituary of Grace Donohue

GRACE TOOKER DONOHUE, of Point Pleasant Beach, passed away, Friday, July 13, 2012. Grace was the middle child of Eleanor Monahan and George Tooker of North Bergen, New Jersey, where she also resided. She spent her summers at Point Pleasant Beach and later became a permanent resident. She was graduated from Saint Dominic Academy in Jersey City with highest honors. Grace earned a Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude, in Sociology and a certification as a teacher of social studies from New Jersey State Teachers College, currently New Jersey City University. Before retirement, she had been employed in various capacities for federal and local governments. She was an active member of the Woman's Club of Point Pleasant for many years and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a lineal descendant of Jacob Applegate and Garret Irons who were founders and then participants in the Battle for the Block House, Toms River, during the Revolutionary War. She was also a member of the Point Pleasant Historical Society. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Donohue and her sister Madeline Tooker. She is survived by her brother George Tooker and his family of Florida, her son Joseph Brian of Bayville, David and his wife Inger of Cranford, Sean and his wife Deborah of Point Pleasant Beach. Her grandchildren, Karen and husband Alex Schultz of Summit, Erik Donohue of Hoboken, Christopher Donohue and Kevin Donohue of Point Pleasant Beach, and one great-granddaughter, Lilah Grace Schultz of Summit. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 18th, from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, July 19th, 9:30 a.m. at Saint Peter R.C. Church, Point Pleasant Beach. Interment will follow the Liturgy at Saint Catherine Cemetery, Sea Girt.
