Obituary of Celeste J. Burd
Celeste J. Zitarosa Burd, 71, of Brick, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021.
Born in Newark to the late Nicholas and Concetta Zitarosa, she grew up in Point Pleasant Beach, spent seventeen wonderful years in Satellite Beach, Florida, and later returned to New Jersey. Celeste was a graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School, William Paterson University, and received her Master’s degree from Kean University.
She spent the early years of her career as a Physical Education Teacher in Lakewood and Saint Peter’s School. Celeste then spent many years positively impacting the lives of countless students and their families as a school Social Worker at both The Collier School and in the Point Pleasant Beach School District.
Celeste’s favorite pastime was anything that involved her family. Spending time at the beach, fishing, and watching her children and grandchildren play sports were activities that brought her great joy. Volunteering was an integral part of her life’s mission. She and Butch have been active in Saint Peter’s, Holy Name of Jesus, and Saint Martha’s parishes, respectively, for over thirty-five years.
She is survived by her beloved husband of fifty-one years, John “Butch”; her daughter, Jennifer Burd; two sons, Casey Burd and his wife, Stephanie, and Randy Burd; and three grandchildren, Austin, Madison, and Alexander Drucquer.
