Obituary of Anne E. Matthews

Anne E. Matthews, 85, of Brick, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.

Born in Orange to the late M. Emmett and Melvina Matthews (nee Powers), she lived in Newark and Point Pleasant before moving to Brick over forty years ago.

Anne taught high school science for over twenty-five years, retiring from Lakewood High School. She was a graduate of the College of Saint Elizabeth and received a Masters degree from the University of Notre Dame and Georgian Court University.

Anne was a longtime member of Saint Martha Parish in Point Pleasant, where she was Liturgical Reader, Eucharistic Minister, and member of the Rosary Society. She also enjoyed membership and friendships in the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by her brother, Michael E. Matthews and his wife, Jeanne. Also surviving are her nieces, Jeanne Burns, Christine Fell and her husband, Matthew, and Megan Cordoma and her husband, Anthony; and her cousins, Bill Mink and his wife, Nancy, and Charles Kaska and his daughter, Juliet.

At 11 a.m., Thursday, July 8 a Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at the Church of Saint Martha, 3800 Herbertsville Road, Point Pleasant, followed by inurnment at Saint Mary of the Lake Parish Cemetery, Lakewood.
