Claudia Irving

Obituary of Claudia Irving

Claudia Irving of Point Pleasant Beach passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, August 25, 2021.

Claudia was born and raised in Rahway. Starting as a young girl, Claudia loved and appreciated nature.  She was known to swim in the Rahway River and come home with frogs in her pockets.  It was there that she began her lifelong love of the environment.  She spent summers at the New Jersey shore before her family relocated to Manasquan in her late teens.

Beginning in her 20’s, Claudia had an attraction to sports cars and rally racing.  Her first new car was an Austin Healy, a classic roadster. Up until her late 70’s she continued to drive a manual transmission.

After retiring from Wilbert and Montenegro Law Firm where she worked as the bookkeeper and office manager, Claudia dedicated her time to being a grandmother.  When grandchildren came along it was as though she had the daughter she always dreamed of and then a boy, a clone of the son she had loved and nurtured.  She cared for them any time she could, taught them about the environment and offered the same happiness and love that would be from the best of any parent.

It is an understatement to call her a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother.  Hosting Christmas Eve, hiking in Allaire Park, going to Star Trek conventions in NYC, raising monarch butterflies, and chaperoning after school play dates are just a few of the sacrifices and gifts that she gave with pleasure. Throughout her life, she gave friendship and love to all who knew her.  She was a doting wife, mother and grandmother and a friend with unconditional loyalty.  Her gifts and sacrifices will be deeply missed.

Claudia is survived by her husband, Jim Irving; her son, Kurt Sackariasen and his wife, Stephanie; step children, Joan Nelson and her husband, Rob, Jimmy Irving and his wife, Tina, and Laurie Schollenberger and her husband, Dave; Cousin, Alice Caggiano; Grandchildren, Alexis, Kurt, Andrew, James, and Jordan.

Claudia was an avid lover of nature.  In lieu of flowers, she would have appreciated a donation to the Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund or any effort toward the preservation of beauty on Earth.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 9 at 11am, at the Manasquan United Methodist Church, 23 Church Street, Manasquan.

Thank you, Claudia.  You were the most wonderful mother, friend, and Mimi. We love you.
