Chucky and I grew up together in Lakewood, meeting in the summer of 1957 when we were 3 and 4 years old respectively.
Chucky was always mindful of his citizenship duties, to Lakewood and to his country. It was behavior learned from his family who are among the first families of Lakewood New Jersey arriving around 1812 I was told.
He was a good man. He will not be forgotten.

i remember about 1984 hanging out in the laketon inn. A drifter was bumming cigarettes. Ronnie C. said something and the drifter broke a glass on ronnie's hand. Sargent Smith entered bar arrested the drifter. to my then 140 lb frame Charles Smith was like a force of nature. he acted admirably, professionally and he took no gut. rest in peace officer smith

So sorry to hear of Charles' passing. We lost touch with him after we sold our business in Lakewood. A stellar and honest hard working bright guy always with a book in his hand, not only when he was studying at Seton Hall, but almost anytime you crossed paths with him. He was a great asset to LPD and the community of Lakewood as a whole. Charles you will be missed by many and not forgotten.

A real good guy. Extremely bright, but more importantly a considerate individual. I recall when my brother Jim was on the Lakewood Police Department and my Father passed it was Chuck who sent us one of the very first condolence cards. Eternal Rest Grant Unto Him Oh Lord, May the Perpetual Light Shine Upon Him, May He Rest In Peace AMEN
