


Obituary of Edward Theodore Verdonck
Edward Theodore Verdonck, 99, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Hackensack Meridian - Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, after a brief illness.
Born in Hoboken on November 20, 1923, he was known by family and friends as "Teddy" or "Uncle Teddy.” He resided in Petersburg, VA since the 1960's before moving to NJ ten months ago so family could care for him.
As a member of the Greatest Generation, Teddy enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 and served in France and Germany during World War II. He loved the Army and serving his country so much that it became his career for over thirty years. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant while serving in combat areas of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He finished his career on administrative duty at Fort Lee in Virginia. He was the recipient of two Bronze Star Medals, a Purple Heart, and several distinguished service medals and awards. He loved professional baseball and was an avid NY Yankee fan. He would often talk about the old-time players from his younger days.
Teddy met his loving wife, Merry, in Germany who predeceased him in 1997. Teddy was also predeceased by his parents, Laurent and Mary Verdonck, two brothers, John and Frank, and his sister, Jennie Rega.
He is survived by his sister, Charlotte Faugno; sister-in-law, Edythe Verdonck; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will from 10 – 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 15 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road, where at 11 a.m. a service will be held. Entombment will follow at Saint Catharine Cemetery, Sea Girt.
