Obituary of Sister Marguerite Xavier Casey

SISTER MARY XAVIER CASEY Sister Mary Xavier Casey, 85, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died on Monday, August 6, 2012 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, NJ. The wake for Sister Mary Xavier Casey will be held at Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, 901 Beaver Dam Road, Point Pleasant, NJ on Thursday, August 9, 2012, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Martha Church, 3800 Herbertsville Road, Point Pleasant, NJ on Friday, August 10, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be on Friday, August 10, 2012 in Holy Family Cemetery, Convent Station, at 12:30 p.m. Sister Mary Xavier was born in East Orange, New Jersey, the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Dunne) Casey. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1944 and was a member for 67 years. Sister Mary Xavier graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education, and from Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ with an M.S. degree in Elementary Education. Sister Mary Xavier was an Educator in the State of New Jersey. She served as a teacher at St. Cecilia School, Englewood; St. Lucy School, Jersey City; and St. John School, Orange. She continued to serve at St. John School as Coordinator of the Learning Center, Vice-principal and Religious Education teacher. She was Principal in Our Lady of All Souls, 1965 to 1975. She was Associate Director of Religious Education at St. Martha Church, Point Pleasant and St. Denis Parish, Manasquan. She lived in Brick, NJ where she resided until her death. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her sister-in-law, Angelina Casey of Ridgefield, CT, her cousin, Sister Maureen Dunne, her dear friend Sister Maureen Christopher Laughlin, 20 nieces and nephews and 25 grandnieces and grandnephews. She had 4 sisters and 2 brothers who predeceased her. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that contributions be made to the Sisters of Charity Development Fund, P.O.
