Obituary of Edward W. Griggs

EDWARD W. GRIGGS, 66, of POINT PLEASANT, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark. Born in Point Pleasant, to the late Aaron and Virginia Williams Griggs, he was a life long resident. He was a graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School and Wentworth Institute of Technology. He served his country in the United States Army and Reserves during Vietnam. Mr. Griggs worked as a metallurgist and owned and operated Griggs Custom Castings, Point Pleasant Beach, for thirty years. An avid boater, he loved the water. He was a member and past president of the Point Pleasant Rotary Club; the Antique Outboard Motor Club; the Monmouth County Rifle & Pistol Club; and the NRA. For fifty years he was a member of the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, where had served as a deacon. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, and best friend, of forty-one years, Barbara Drozd Griggs; his son, Edward A. Griggs and his wife Hsiao-Yu of Mount Olive; his daughter, Sarah Sarbello of Point Pleasant Beach; and three grandchildren, who he loved spending time with, Morgan, Emily, and Wesley. Friends may visit from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m., Thursday, at the Pable - Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 10 a.m., Friday, funeral services will be held at the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, Bay and Forman Aves., Point Pleasant Beach. As an expression of sympathy, contributions made in his memory to the Griggs Family Scholarship Fund at the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, are suggested.
