Douglas Sarine posted a condolence

While visiting the shore with my family one Summer, I ended up having an emergency appendectomy. It happened the day I arrived, and by the time I was getting out of the hospital my family was headed back to their jobs and lives. I was not cleared for travel on a plane to Los Angeles for about 8 days. Shirley opened up her home to me and I had the pleasure of spending a week recuperating at her home in Mantoloking. We read the papers, watched the Yankees, and engaged in great conversations. She was so full of life and personality that I was sad when it was time for me to leave. I remember one evening over dinner when she was having her “nipper” of Heineken, we discussed the value of having pets, specifically dogs. “They are a daily reminder to be compassionate,” she said. Well, this Doug was her “dog” for one week and I will never forget her compassion and kindness. I am grateful to have known Shirley, and I offer my sincere condolences and wishes of peace to her family and friends.
