Obituary of John F. Murray

John F. Murray, 78 of Brick, formerly of Brielle, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2013. Jack was a graduate of Seton Hall and previous owner of J. F. Murray Insurance Agency, Point Pleasant, NJ. The sea beckoned at every moment of his life, and he was at the helm of his much loved boat, "Murmo". President of the Manasquan River Marlin Tuna Club and life long member, President of United States Atlantic Tuna Tournament, Manasquan River Golf Club, advisor to International Commission Atlantic Tuna, Forked River Tuna Club, Ironbound Association President, Three Foot Gun Club and member of Mid-Atlantic Fisheries. Jack's love of giant tuna fishing through New England resulted in catching or releasing over 500 giants during his life of fishing along with his wife and devoted fishing family. Traveling the East Coast fishing tournament circuit, he brought home enough trophies to fill the walls of local fishing clubs. The Manasquan River Marlin Tuna Club was his passion for over 25 years, and he was instrumental in beginning the George Burlew Scholarship fund, for students with a passion for the sea. Survived by his loving wife, of 57 years, Maureen, and his sister Mary Ann Birkenhauer of Brielle. He is also survived by his 5 children., Kathleen Madison-Bozan and husband Tom, Brick NJ. John F. Murray III, Point Pleasant. Erin Hunt and husband Jim, Howell NJ. Maryellen Ripoll and her husband Claudio, Point Pleasant. Colleen Smith and her husband William Smith, Manasquan. His 11 grand children, Marjorie Madison-Catone, Ryan Ripoll, Caitlin Madison, Margaret Smith-Morgan, Michelle Ripoll, William "Chip" Smith, Kevin Ripoll, Tyler Hunt, Courtney Smith, John "JJ" Murray IV, Shannon Madison and 2 great grandchildren Brayden Morgan and Lily Ripoll. His niece Kristen Birkenhauer-Cooper and nephew Derek Birkenhauer. Jack's family are holding a private memorial service held under the direction of Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant.
