Rev. Gerard J. Brown, 77, of Point Pleasant Beach, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, June 19, 2013.
Father Brown was born April 15, 1936 in Perth Amboy. He studied at Seton Hall University, South Orange, and continued his preparation for the priesthood at Saint Thomas Seminary, Bloomfield, CT and at Immaculate Conception Seminary, Darlington.
He was ordained priest May 27, 1961, by Bishop George W. Ahr in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton.
Father Brown was chaplain of the Mother House at Mount Saint Mary, North Plainfield, and went on to faithfully serve, as a priest, the parish communities of Saint Francis of Assisi, Metuchen, Saint Mary, Perth Amboy, Saint Michael, West End, Saint Mary of the Lake, Lakewood, and Corpus Christi, Willingboro, before his mid-1990's retirement.
In his later years, he attended the Church of the Sacred Heart, Bay Head, where he had been a member of the choir.
Affectionately known as "Father Jerry," he will long be remembered for his wit, sense of humor, and generous nature.
Father Brown was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brown, and by other family members.
Rite of Reception of the Body will begin at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 25 at the Church of the Sacred Heart, 751 Main Avenue (Route 35), Bay Head, with a viewing following until 2:45 p.m.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will celebrated at 3 p.m. by Bishop David M. O'Connell, C.M.
At 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 26 Rite of Committal and interment will take place at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.
As an expression of sympathy, donations made in his memory to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
