To the Lurie family,
I received a call in Maryland today to tell me that your Mom had passed away over the weekend. I was very sad. However, I do believe in God and fate and I do not know if you all knew this but your Mom had a very special place in my "Heart." When I moved next door in the most beautiful house I will ever own (thanks to Mark Lurie), I got an extra special surprise. The support, guidance, and friendship from one of the most knowledgeable woman I had ever met. She was always asking me how the boys were, or how my day at work was, or talking politics ( She was extremely excited about Tim being in Politics again) and I really enjoyed our conversations and her advice on lot of topics. I feel like I knew all the Lurie children even though I did not know everyone of you because she would talk about each and every one of you and I agree with the APP ( well-accomplished). She was so proud of you all and she loved you all so much! She was a true matriarch. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of Mel's life - she meant a lot to me. My mother had passed away 6 years ago and she was my life-line. Your mother helped me fill a void in my life for the past 4 years and I am eternally grateful. God Speed and Rest in Peace Mel......

Dear Kathy, Sally, Maryellen, Victor, Nancy, Mark & Tim-
I am saddened to hear of Mel's passing. She, and your dad, held a special place in my life and my memories. I am thankful for their friendship with my parents and their presence in my life. And I know that she was so very special to Irene. She and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I never met Mel Lurie, but experienced her wisdom and intelligence through her daughter, Maryellen. She was a revered and loving matriarch for her family and through her strong faith, persevered her illness with bravery and resolve. What a wonderful and kind legacy she leaves behind for those lucky enough to have been in her life. May she rest in peace.
