Obituary of Lois S. Bowlby

Lois Schenck Bowlby, 82, of Toms River, formerly of Manasquan and Somerville, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2010 at Claremont Care Center in Point Pleasant. Born in Somerville to the late Lewis and Sarah Schenck, she lived there and in Manasquan before moving to Toms River fifteen years ago. Mother of six, Lois raised her family with a sense of humor and a fun-loving spirit. She was the consummate homemaker. Lo enjoyed cooking, a great party, and harmonizing with her husband, Ed, to old Irish tunes. She will be fondly remembered by many who had the opportunity to stop in for a cookie or a beverage at the Bowlby Beach Bar during her 30-plus years on the Manasquan Beachfront. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward D. Bowlby, in 1993. The couple was married in 1950. She was also predeceased by her son, Lewis S. Bowlby, in 1997. She is survived by her children, Dineen Sing of Hong Kong, Mari Bowlby Loeffler of Manasquan, Megan Stives and her husband Glenn of Flemington, Edward D. Bowlby Jr. and his wife Joy of Point Pleasant, and Driscoll Bowlby and his wife Dee of Sparta, and 16 grandchildren. Visiting hours are Thursday, March 18, from 6 - 9 p.m. at Pable - Evertz Funeral Home, 901 Beaver Dam Road, Point Pleasant. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Martha's Church, 3800 Herbertsville Road, Point Pleasant, on Friday.
