Obituary of Maureen F. McWatters

Maureen McWatters, 56, of Pt Pleasant, NJ passed away Wednesday, September 8 at Ocean Medical Center Hospice surrounded by family and friends, following a 4 year battle with cancer. Born and raised in Carteret, NJ, she moved to Pt Pleasant, NJ in 1995. She graduated from St Mary's High School in Perth Amboy, NJ in 1971. She received a BS in Recreation Administration from Cal State Poly University, Pomona, CA in 1981 and her nursing diploma from Muhlenberg School of Nursing in Plainfield, NJ in 1992. In nursing she found her true vocation. A registered nurse at Ocean Medical Center in Brick, NJ since 1996, and in the Pediatric unit since 2000. Prior to that she was an orthopedic R.N. at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield, NJ. She was also a part-time R.N. for many years at Pediatric Associates in Metuchen, NJ. Her path to nursing started as a Recreation Aide at Roosevelt Hospital in Edison, NJ. This led her to pursue a degree in Recreation Administration followed by several years in CA and NJ in the recreational therapy field, culminating in the achievement of her nursing diploma. She was a communicant of St Peter's R.C. Church in Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ and member of the choir there. Maureen was also an artist, a musician, and a gifted storyteller who loved to make people laugh. She was the heart of her family, to whom she was devoted, and a loyal friend. She was the precious daughter of Thomas [deceased] and Dorothy McWatters of Carteret; cherished sister of Kathleen McWatters of Woodbridge; Donna McWatters Bowles and her husband Donald of Indianapolis, IN; John McWatters and his wife Tammy of Carteret; Thomas McWatters and his wife Maria of Woodbridge; and Patrick McWatters of Carteret. She was also the beloved aunt of Tom and Anthony McWatters. Friends may visit from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Monday, September 13 at the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road (732-899-3300). At 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 14, a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's R.C Church, Forman & Saint Louis Aves., Point Pleasant Beach.
