To Linda's loved ones:
I was in Linda's first fourth grade class at Antrim school. I then had the opportunity to teach with her at Ocean Road School. She is the reason I went into education. She set the bar high, but yet showed love and concern for each of her students. She was funny, kind, and fair. What a great lady.
My condolensces to all of you.

Dear Family, Friends, & Fans of Mrs. Van Dyun,
If Mrs. Van Dyun hadn't been my 5th grade teacher, I wonder if I wouldn't be remembering her now as "Aunt Linda." With 2 parents as teachers, the Point Pleasant Public Schools had a tendency to turn teachers into family members.
As a child, I did not find it odd that I had inherited multiple aunts and uncles that I was not blood-related to. I did not find it odd that I knew my kindergarten teacher as "Aunt Miss Boyle." They all taught in and around the schools and if I did not see them while at school, I knew I would see them on one of the upcoming Friday parties. That seemed to be a big thing for them.
Anyway, Mrs. Van Dyun did happen to be my 5th grade teacher and I have faint but fond memories of her teaching me math and social studies. I enjoyed her class and her sense of humor. I sort of remember even enjoying detention with her after school (sort of). I can still picture her classroom in the old Ocean Road School and for some reason, I have vivid memories of me designing her bulletin boards.
Even then, I knew Mrs. Van Dyun was close with my parents. She was seemingly a regular at our house for those Friday parties and I also remember delivering her some 'special gifts' at school. For example, I remember kids whispering to each other in the middle of class before Christmas, asking what everybody had gotten Mrs. Van Dyun as a gift. I can not recall the specifics but you might imagine that somebody said that they got her a mug. Somebody else had probably wrapped her a calendar or a paper weight or a box of cookies. "What did you get her Evan?" asked Joe. "Oh, I got her Booze." "What's that?" he asked. "I'll tell you later," I said.
Thinking back on the group of boys in that class, I can see why my father deemed it OK to put a Christmas bow on an assortment of mini chocolate liquor bottles. Ironically, I am currently a 5th grade teacher myself and well, that would be a special gift.
Mrs. Van Dyun was never just my 5th grade teacher. She became a family member to me and she was there to celebrate many important milestones with me and my family. She was fun to be with and to talk to. She was colorful, funny, and cared about me long after I left her classroom.
With loving memories,
~Evan Horback

You were like a grandmother to me for many years. I have fond memories of many Christmas Day's at your house wondering who would open the infamous "Panty box!" You always treated me like family and you will surely be missed. My deepest sympathy to the entire Van Duyn family.

Linda, my childhood friend, and the very best jitterbug partner in PPB High School, you will be sorely missed by me. The fun we had in High School will never be forgotten. Our many IHTFS sleep-overs, the rides in Blanch Besterman's Rodney, and the many secrets shared by all of us, are memories that I will never forget. Our heart-felt sympathy to Arnett, and your Son and Daughter.
