Obituary of Linda A. Van Duyn

Linda A. Van Duyn, 72, of Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, September 15, 2010. She was born in Jersey City, but lived almost all of her years in Pt. Pleasant and Pt. Pleasant Beach. A graduate of Pt. Pleasant Beach High School and Glassboro State Teachers College (now Rowan University), she taught 4th Grade for 7 years at Antrim School in Pt. Pleasant Beach, followed by 28 years as a 5th Grade teacher at Ocean Road School in Pt. Pleasant, where she was awarded the Governor's Teacher Recognition Award in 1991. A lifetime member of the NEA/NJEA, she retired from teaching in 1994. Linda was the first female member of the Pt. Pleasant Elks Club, where she was a member of the Fluke Tournament Committee and the Veteran's Committee. Among her varied interests were travel (particularly her cruises to Hawaii and Alaska), cooking, and family. But by far her favorite activity was travelling to "The Happiest Place On Earth," Walt Disney World in Florida, and she was looking forward to sharing the excitement of her 4-year old grand-nephew Brendan Lang's first trip to Disney World at the end of September. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 51 years, Richard A. (Arnie) Van Duyn of Pt. Pleasant, her son Christopher A. Van Duyn and future daughter-in-law Sharon Catelli of West Long Branch, her daughter Tracy A. Van Duyn of Eatontown, and other loving family and friends. Relatives and friends may visit from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m., Monday, September 20 at the Pable - Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road, 732.899.3300. At 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 21, a service will be held at the funeral home. Cremation will take place privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pt.
