Obituary of William Randolph Wesson

William Randolph Wesson, 88, of Mantoloking died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, November 26. Bill was born in Orange, NJ, grew up in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, and spent many summers with his parents and grandparents in Mantoloking. After high school, Bill became a lieutenant in the US Navy where he completed his training as a naval aviator flying from aircraft carriers. He was very proud of this accomplishment. On the GI Bill, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Math and English at Williams College, and his Bachelor of Science in Business and Engineering at M.I.T., where he graduated in 1950. During his college years, he built his home, "Driftwood," and in 1953 he married Anne Simonds. Bill opened the first retail stock and bond brokerage office in Point Pleasant Beach on Arnold Avenue in 1959, known then as Spear, Leeds and Kellogg. Bill continued his career as a stock broker and branch office manager until his retirement in the 1990's. He served the Borough of Mantoloking for several decades as treasurer and tax collector. Bill loved sailing on Barnegat Bay and was a life long member of the Mantoloking Yacht Club. The churches of St. Mary's by-the-Sea in Point Pleasant Beach and St.Simon by-the-Sea in Mantoloking were especially important to Bill. He is survived by his former wife, Anne Simonds Wesson of Middlebury, VT; his children Emily Wesson of Orono, ME, Cynthia Wesson of Addison, VT, Sarah Wesson of Ripton, VT, and John Wesson of Mantoloking, NJ; his grandchildren, Cameron, Maria, and Nyasha Millard and Schuyler Klein; his great grandchild Noah Millard; and his nephew Ted Wesson of Largo, FL. Visitation will be from 2 - 4 p.m. & 7 - 9 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 10.00 a.m., Thursday, December 1, a Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 804 Bay Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Saint Mary's by-the-Sea and Saint Gregory's Pantry, both located at 804 Bay Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742.
