Obituary of Herbert Schiller

Herbert Schiller, of Point Pleasant, passed away peacefully, Thursday, April 26, 2011, at home. Born in Irvington, to Herbert Schiller Sr. and Clara Schmalfuss, he attended school in Union and married his high school sweetheart Helen Raffo. Herb helped his father start Foremost Mfg. Co. in 1957 and then led the business from a basement startup to a leader in reflector fabrication. His most notable project resides today in the Smithsonian Institute. Foremost produced a part for NASA used in Frank Borman's helmet. Herb retired as president in 1990. He and Helen served as leaders at Evangel Church. Herb was Secretary of the Board for 21 years. He served as a Director of the Union Center National Bank and the Walter Hoving Home. He also was involved with Beacon Light Counseling Center and Young Life of Westfield. An avid golfer, Herb loved going to golf tournaments. He enjoyed the Yankee's, boating, fishing, skiing, German food, and music. He loved antiques, making and repairing furniture in his garage. Herb will be deeply missed by Helen, his wife of 56 years; his son Herbert S. Schiller, his wife, Joan of Warren; daughters Hope Wilt, her husband, Bruce of Spring Lake, and Laney Fowler, her husband, Doug of Bernardsville; and by his sister Ellen Geiger, her husband, Elmer of Clark. He also leaves 13 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 12th at 5 p.m., at Evangel Church, Scotch Plains, NJ.
