Annie Scott

Obituary of Annie Louise Scott

Annie Louise Scott, 79, of Point Pleasant, died peacefully at home with family on June 2nd. She was born and raised in Paramus, NJ, and graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1950. She moved to Point Pleasant in 1958, where she raised her family. A dedicated employee, Annie worked tirelessly in the Point Pleasant Borough school system for over thirty-five years until her retirement in 2005. To say that Annie was an active member of the Point Pleasant community would be an understatement. Her service and devotion spanned a lifetime with particular focus on education and athletics. Annie was an early advocate for the local Head Start program, which serves the educational, health and nutrition needs of low-income children and their families. She served as President of both the Point Pleasant PTO and the Athletic Boosters, was a member and officer of the Band Boosters and an active member and coach of the Point Pleasant recreation and travel soccer programs. She was a long-time volunteer for the high school's Project Graduation program and was active in the NJEA Pride in Education campaign and Read Across America. Annie's selfless dedication to her community was recognized with her induction into the Hall of Fame of the Point Pleasant Foundation for Excellence in Education. She was a long-time member of the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, teaching Sunday school with her husband and friends. A talented artist, Annie shared her love of painting, sewing and quilting with her family, friends, church, schools, and community. She was also a permanent fixture at the town's playing fields and gyms collecting tickets, working in the snack stand or "quietly" cheering on her children, grandchildren and their teammates. Many residents will also fondly remember her May Fair funnel cakes and homemade candy apples at Halloween. Annie was predeceased by her husbands, Paul Edward Ridge in 1958 and Jack Halsey Scott in 1982, her father Calvin Candisky, mother Emily Lethbridge Candisky, a brother Elliott Thomson and his wife Louise, two sisters, Doris Woardell and her husband Elmer and Mildred Rea and her husband Michael, a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Candisky, and a nephew, Michael Rea. Surviving are her brother Calvin Candisky of Rocky River, OH, her daughter Bette Hughes and her husband Timothy of Point Pleasant, three sons, Paul Ridge and his wife Lorraine of Ellicott City, Maryland, Mark Ridge and his wife Elke of Manasquan, NJ, and David Scott and his wife Elizabeth of Rumson, NJ. Annie also lovingly adored and is survived by her 13 grandchildren, Kyle, Paul, Christopher, Peter, Kaitlyn, Kieran, Grace, Lauren, Kelly, Charlotte, Lily, Bryce, and Logan, and 3 great-grandchildren, Emily, Jackson and Connor, as well as several wonderful nieces and nephews. Annie's legacy of love, devotion, generosity and support of her family, community and those in need will be greatly missed by those of us who knew her as Mom, Grandma or my friend, Annie. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held for family and friends on June 29th at 11:00 am at the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 710 Forman Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach.
