Obituary of Suzanne Smith

Suzanne Smith, 75, of Point Pleasant passed away peacefully of cancer on Wednesday, November 3, 2021.

She was born in Manhattan on May 15, 1946 to Emory and Elizabeth Smith, she moved to Spring Lake in 1949 where she was raised. She attended Saint Catharine's Grammar School and graduated from Manasquan High School. In 1968 she received a Bachelor of Science degree in education upon graduation from Cabrini College.

Suzanne taught in the Brick Township school system as an elementary teacher for thirty-nine years mostly at Veterans Memorial Elementary School. She totally embraced her teaching experience and would often say that her students inspired her to become more creative when planning lessons in order to bring excitement and positive attitudes towards learning. Her students could sense her fun-loving personality and they had no reservations about playing tricks on her. And they did!

She retired in 2007 because she was tired (she liked to sleep late) and wanted to enjoy life while still having the ability to do so. Suzanne brought laughter, joy, and happiness into the lives of her dear family and friends whom she treasured immensely. She loved spending time socializing over lunches and dinners, attending NYC theatre trips and travelling with friends. She enjoyed entertaining (as in singing, not cooking) and would often hostess Karaoke gigs at her digs, The Lizard Lounge. She will be remembered as a bright, quick witted, kind, and generous daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Her joyous presence will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Surviving are her devoted sister, Betsy Smith of Wall; her loving brother, John Smith and his wife, MaryJane of Vero Beach, FL; nephews, Michael Smith of Summit, Jeffery Smith of Melbourne, FL, niece, Gillian Sapia of Lake Worth, FL; several cousins; and her beloved invisible dog, Ralph.

Memorial visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m., Monday, November 8 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road.  At 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 9 a Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Saint Peter Church, Point Pleasant Beach, followed by inurnment at Saint Catharine Cemetery, Sea Girt.
