Sharon Whitesell

Obituary of Sharon McKenzie Whitesell

Sharon McKenzie Whitesell, 73, of Brick Township, passed away at Ocean University Medical Center on August 28, 2023, with family by her side, after a brief but well fought battle with breast and lung cancer.

Sharon was born on October 8, 1949 to William and Adelyn McKenzie in New Brunswick, the eldest of six siblings.  She grew up in Middletown and eventually settled in Ocean County to raise her family of five children.

Sharon dedicated thirty years of employment to Hackensack Meridian Healthcare in the Patient Accounting Department where she excelled at providing customer service to whomever was lucky enough to have Sharon working with them.

In 2020, Sharon retired and spent her time with family, having lunch dates with friends and former coworkers, playing along with game shows on TV, reading books, and bringing joy to all those around her.  Sharon was also an amazing cook and loved being part of a large extended family with all that that entails.  Her door was always open to family, friends, and any four-legged visitor who happened to stop by or who needed a place to stay.

Sharon was predeceased by her parents, William and Adelyn McKenzie, her sister-in-law, Doreen McKenzie, and her granddaughter, Cassie.

She is survived by her children: Karen, Krista, Karla, Kurt (Shannon), and Karma; her grandchildren: Michael, Tyler, Vinnie, Cameron, Samantha, Aly, Shane, Will, and Matt; her great-grandchildren: Easton, Elsie, Emmery, and Nicholas; her siblings:  Doug (Victa), Jill (Steve), Mark, Kevin (Candy), and Tim;  her grand-dog, Smokey Bear; as well as a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.  Sharon kept hope alive in her heart right up until her passing and will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4 – 6 p.m., Thursday, September 7 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to K9s For Warriors, an organization Sharon felt strongly about that not only assists our veterans, but also saves the lives of dogs in need.  www.k9sforwarriors.org
